S Africa make clean sweep against Bangladesh

South Africa made a 2-0 clean sweep of the Test series against Bangladesh when they won the second Test at Chittagong by a huge margin of an innings and 205 runs. In reply to South Africa’s massive first innings score of 583 for 7 declared, the home team could manage just 259 and 119 in their first and second innings respectively.
The South African innings was marked by a new world record of 415 for the opening partnership by skipper Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie. In the process, Smith made 232 while McKenzie made 226.
Fast bowlers Dale Steyn and Makhaya Ntini bowled superbly to take 4 wickets each and dismissed Bangladesh for 259 in their first innings. Shahriar Nafees was the top scorer for Bangladesh with 69, while Abdur Razzak and Shakib Al Hasan also made useful contributions with the bat scoring 33 and 40 respectively.
 
Following on, Bangladesh were all out for 119 with spinner Robin Peterson claiming five wickets for 33. Steyn claimed 3 for 35 and was named the Man of the Series for his 14 wickets in the two Tests. Razzak remained not out on 33, while Nafees again batted well for his 31. Aftab Ahmed had to retire hurt in the first innings after being hit by a fast, rising delivery and he was unable to take any further part in the match. Smith was adjudged the Man of the Match. The three-match ODI series between the teams now begins on March 9.
