India move into Under-19 World Cup finals

India survived some late scares to beat New Zealand by 3 wickets and move into the finals of the Under-19 World Cup being held in Malaysia. India will now meet the winners of the other semi-final between Pakistan and South Africa. Earlier, India won the tournament in 2000 and finished runners-up in 2006.
Batting first after winning the toss, New Zealand made 205 for 8 in their 50 overs. For the Kiwis, Corey J Anderson scored a quick 70 off only 68 balls that gave some acceleration to the New Zealand innings when their batsmen were pinned down by some accurate Indian bowling. Skipper K S Williamson and K J Colson also made valuable contributions with 37 and 32 respectively. For India captain Virat Kohli, Tanmay Srivastav and S Kaul claimed two wickets each.

Rain in the middle of the innings reduced the target to 191 off 43 overs for India. Opener Sreevats Goswami and V Kohli were associated in a 84-run stand after India lost two wickets for 40. After Goswami and Kohli departed scoring 51 and 43 respectively, the New Zealanders came back to the game claiming three wickets in quick succession. India were precariously placed at 183 for 7 at that time. S Tiwari (29 not out) and P Sangwan (5 not out), however, saw the team through without further hiccups. T G Southee was the most successful bowler taking 4 for 29.

Indian captain V Kohli was named the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
