Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait has decided to stay away from cricket indefinitely, citing physical and emotional exhaustion. According to Cricket Australia, the promising bowler will be rested from all levels while he undergoes a program to help him recover. The duration of the program will depend on the progress he makes. Tait said it was not a sudden decision and he was struggling with it for quite some time. The tearaway fast bowler, who often bowled at over 150 kph, expressed the hope that the break would give him a clear mind and a chance for his body to rest and recover.
Tait said he was no longer enjoying the game because of these issues. “If I continue to go on it will be unfair on my team-mates and support staff of both the Australian and South Australian cricket teams - and most importantly my family and close friends," he said. Tait performed brilliantly in the 2007 World Cup claiming 23 wickets, but appeared to lose his sting against India in the Perth Test. He had recently undergone elbow surgery causing him ongoing pain. Recurrent injuries since 2005 have apparently affected his physical, and more importantly, his emotional well-being.
Tait might seek advice from England batsman Marcus Trescothick who had faced some similar problems in the recent past.
